Make Your Life Toxic Free One Product at a Time
Why I believe making SMALL changes in products we use every day can make a HUGE difference!
I have always been someone who tried to stay healthy; working out on a regular basis and eating well – both from a quantity (small portions) and quality (organic and/or local food) perspective. I started, mostly during my 20s, to seriously pay attention to the foods I eat and be more aware of all the pesticide and other chemical use to grow our food. However, I had never really been careful with other products I use every day, until a friend educated me and opened my eyes to the amount of toxic ingredients found in most, if not all, products we use… Soap, shampoo, makeup, cookware, laundry detergent, and the list goes on.
Several of those toxic ingredients that we, too often, are not aware of, have been linked to serious health issues such as cancer, reproductive issues, and hormone disruption. Did you know that there are 85,000 chemicals registered for use, and more hitting the market every day? Take the personal care product industry for example: while the EU has banned over 1,400 ingredients, the US has banned only 30 of them, while Canada only 600. In fact, today it is legal for U.S. cosmetics companies to use known carcinogens in the products we use every day.
After doing a lot of my own research and educating myself about the negative impacts many of the products I was using could have on my health, it was a no brainer for me to start making small changes. Personally, I have also lost family members to cancer. I have friends in their 40s battling cancer or dealing with reproductive issues. I’m positive that many of you reading this do as well.
From that came the desire to share my new-found knowledge with others and help people make better choices for themselves and their family. That’s why I joined Beautycouter, a disruptive brand that is not only looking to educate others but also looking to change laws in both US and Canada. Beautycounter is so much more than selling beauty products, it is about our mission, to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
Beautycounter is also a B Corporation (B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency): we believe that business should be about positive change. Social responsibility and environmental stewardship should not be pitted against the desire for financial success. Beautycounter allows me to bring forward change and impact people’s lives, while also building a business I can be proud of. I am so excited to begin this partnership with fitinyourdress.com and help all our readers make small changes in their lives too. I’ll be sharing information and tips about how you can make SMALL changes in your lives that will make a HUGE impact on your health!
